“Wasps Ladies Travel To Allianz Park Looking To Sting The Champions.”

Wasps Ladies go into tomorrow’s Premier 15s semi-finals in good form after securing their play-off place in style with a 47-20 win over Gloucester-Hartpury at Kingsholm back in March. Since then, they have gone on to record impressive victories against Bristol (25-17) & Railway Union (33-13) – which saw the first ever women’s club match between a Premier 15s & All-Ireland side.
Yet despite being unbeaten in three matches, Wasps’ DoR Giselle Mather is under no illusion about the size of the task they face tomorrow: ‘Saracens are a very very good side’ Mather said, but she described the physical games against Bristol – which saw Wasps defending for large periods of the game & Railway Union as ‘fantastic preparation for Saturday’s game’, where Wasps defence will be severely tested again.
Saracens are also in impressive form having only lost once this season, beating Wasps twice along the way; 21-5 at home & 47-17 at Twyford Avenue. But Wasps will take confidence knowing that they are one of only two teams to have beaten the reigning champions in the Premier 15s era, a 5-0 home win last season.
Wasps will need a repeat of that performance if they are to stop Saracens going for back to back titles against the winners of Harlequins Women or Loughborough Lightning on 27th April at Franklin’s Gardens. Here’s hoping for a sting in the tale!
